Okay, so I know what you are thinking but "I am Number Four" was much better than I expected! Tyler and I went to see it with some friends last night and I was pleasantly surprised. It had good special affects, other than an odd monster that appears near the end-that could have been left out, and the action sequences were well implemented. It does try to infuse teen romance and angst with alien action, which I am still trying to fully decide whether or not the writers and directors were successful in doing, but it is exciting! The hero aliens in this movie are closer to Abercrombie models than the green ones we're used to seeing in movies but the villains are definitely out of a nightmare. There were a couple corny parts and more than a few cliches, try going through puberty as a teenage alien, but it truly was a fun watch. It is based on the novel by Pittacus Lore, which I haven't read so I couldn't tell you if it were well adapted, but it is book one of six. Since I do feel though that the movie could have used more originality I will give it two and a half alien monsters out of five. Should we expect more alien/teen ridden angst to hit our theaters in the future? Well Box office projections show that I Am Number Four will win as the highest-grossing film in its opening weekend, so I guess we'll have to wait with bated breath lol.
